FXBIS receives the “Most Impactful Leader in Water & Water Management” CSR Award.

A proud moment for Us! ~~ For over a decade, FXBIS has been initiating programmes on issues around water – be it construction of soak pits around the bore wells, repair of hand pumps, revival of the defunct government schemes for piped water supply for rural village dwellers, or desilting of the ‘daris’ (natural springs), which are the traditional water sources in Jharkhand. FXBIS teams have also been intensively involved in the preparation of the village water security plans as well as the capacity building of village-level institutions, such as the VWSC (Village Water & Sanitation Committee), to secure water for all in rural areas, uninterruptedly and indiscriminately without consideration of caste/ class.

 

In recognition of our work, FXBIS was awarded a ‘certificate of merit’ in the category “Most Impactful Leaders in Water & Water Management” at the World Water Leadership Congress, held in Mumbai on the 17th of February 2018. Seen below is FXBIS’ Programmes’ Manager, Mr. Kiran Kumar, who led the teams to work for and with the rural communities of Jharkhand.

Suraksha Education Center!

 

Inculcating the love for reading among young minds ~~ The FXB India Suraksha is running 10 SECs (Suraksha Education Centres) for marginalised children with poor academic competence as part of Holistic Rural Development Programme, supported by the CSR arm of HDFC.
All 10 SECs – 3 each in Darrang & Kamrup districts of Assam and 4 in Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya run a Children Library, which is instrumental in nurturing reading habit among 300 children.

Remembering the iconic wordsmith of Hindi literature ~~ Partnering with ‘Rajiv Gandhi Foundation’, children from our NOIDA Slum Development Programme (Sector 16) celebrated ‘Munshi Premchand Samaroh’ on his birthday – the 31st. The day witnessed participation from our kids in plays, story-telling and life event discussions.

This was one amongst our endeavours to expose children to refined age-less literature and the joy of reading…….. which would ultimately and Definitely improve their language skills and academic performance.

Make over of the Puducherry School

The School Up-liftment Programme, Puducherry ~~ We are in news again! This time it is from South India…
At one of our intervention locations, Puducherry, FXB India Suraksha, through its Corporate Partner Whirlpool Ltd., has “rejuvenated” a 55 year old school completely. The school had lacked basic amenities such as hygienic toilets and urinals, adequate classrooms and that the rural school ground was in a low lying area where stagnant rainwater caused waterborne diseases (dengue, malaria, typhoid) thus increasing absenteeism among students, has undergone a 180 degree change. This initiative was begun in mid of 2017 and exactly a year later the entire school has been renovated making it relevant for a child’s learning to be an enjoyable journey.

The school

was inaugurated by the State’s Honorable Chief Minister. The Education Minister, Education Secretary, Development Commissioner, Director of School Education Dept, Chief Educational Officer, Executive Engineer of PWD and other bureaucrats too visited school campus. The event was covered by the regional print media, Dhina Malar, Dhina Thandi and Dhina Mani.

Installing glass boards, pin boards to present and project exercises, developing reading corners, closed wall cupboards, murals, painting of school building, a proper kitchen, staff rooms, repairing of electrical items like ceiling fans and tube light for proper lighting and aeration for each classroom, RO water system and separate restrooms for boys and girls. The self-introspection written in the restrooms is believed to develop self-confidence in children when they use the facility. A kids play zone is also developed to help children to sharpen their mental faculties because “all work and no play makes both Jack and Jill dull children!”

FXBIS -A Review on program MUKTI

MUKTI Programme ~~ Today is an important day for us and our commitment to creating a country where our children are protected and safe. Mukti program to end child abuse and human trafficking supported by ECPAT Luxembourg entered its second stage in Ukhrul district of Manipur where village representatives from remote vulnerable villages came together to prepare a child protection and safety plan for these vulnerable villages. The plan was then shared with district authorities for endorsement and support. The District Commissioner while applauding this joint effort committed full support to this initiative and recommended the District Child Protection committee to work closely on this. He also mentioned on the successful pilot this model should be replicated in all villages of Ukhrul. The Superintendent Police of the district lauded the effort and committed all support required. We at FXBIS are looking forward in making this partnership between community government and civil society a model intervention for child protection and safety.

Manipur Taxi Union Join the Fight against Human Trafficking ~~ For the first time in the history of Ukhrul District in Manipur 70 representatives from the 500 member Taxi Union met to show solidarity and join the movement to prevent human trafficking and child sexual abuse in their district. They unanimously decided to include a 18th point in their Union Charter proclaiming that they will act as early warning system and will work closely with police to report any suspicious movement. All 500 taxi drivers will sign this charter which is the guiding principle of the taxi union. FXB India Suraksha has started to work closely with the Union to orient them on different aspects and modus operandi of human trafficking and will assist them in implementing their action plan. Mukti program supported by ECPAT Luxembourg is in its way to become a people’s movement in Ukhrul. FXBIS is back and with a feather in its hat – We are Felicitated !

 

We are excited and grateful…

On the 18th of May 2018, a post related to the MUKTI programme was published on our FB wall. On the 22nd of June 2018, FXBIS receives an award at an event titled ‘Coffee For Cause’ organised by the media house, Cause Because. “The award is special to us because it is recognition of the fact that MUKTI programme, which aims to curb human trafficking and child sexual abuse in India, is on the right track”. Besides contributing to the SDG 16, namely Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, the programme has been felicitated as one of the Most Promising Projects of the development sector, much in need of the current times.

And we haven’t got complacent….

In Imphal, the MUKTI team organised a Journalists’ Training on child safety and human trafficking on the 25th of June ’18. The training was attended by over 25 journalists from Imphal alone. MUKTI programme plans to reach out to school students and teachers, the police personnel, village community leaders, church heads and even taxi union drivers, who ferry passengers, to draw initiatives from them in curbing the social ill.
