‘System of Rice Intensification’ (SRI)

Low-cost, high yield rice cultivation in Kamrup district, Assam ~~ The ‘System of Rice Intensification’ (SRI) is a method aimed at increasing rice yield in farming. It is advantageous to paddy farmers because the cost of cultivation is low and the yield is very high. It is also an eco-friendly technique of cultivation where organic compost is used, making the land in use sustainable.

FXBIS, with support from HDFC Parivartan (CSR wing) , had begun this initiative in 3 targeted villages of Kamrup, in 126 beeghas (approx.31.5 acres). 65 farmers had participated in this pilot phase of SRI cultivation. The initiative’s first yield has recorded a result growth of above 30% over the usual productivity.

Now that’s some food for thought!!
